Cultural Dance Performance and Workshop

By Danielle: Cultural Dance Performance

I attended the International Education performance on Thursday, November 17 in the evening. It was held at the PAC building which is a theatre. The event had three dances, Flamenco, Capoerira and Belly dance. Each is unique dances that come from different countries around the world. In Flamenco the woman wore a striking red and blue long dress that twirled with each step and the male wore an elegant suit with a red shirt to match her. The dance is singing, clapping (Palmas) and guitar. The movements are strong and forced but look very beautiful. Capoerira is an African-Brazilian martial arts dance. I had never heard or seen anything like it. The people perform martial art movements with dance and move all around the stage. The belly dancer was beautiful and wore a genie like outfit. It flowed with every step and it was amazing to watch how she shook her stomach. She used a knife to balance and stood on four glasses. This was my favorite; she was so talented and the music was great.

The Cultural Dance Workshop was held on Wednesday, November 16 at the Performing Arts Center. The workshop began at 7 and ended at 8:30. There was a variety of performers, but my favorite was the belly dancer. Everyone who attended left speechless; her performance was the best. Her outfit gave her dancing the right essentials for a good performance. She inspired me to take a dance class. There were also Flamenco and Capoeira dancers. I had never seen capoeira dancers. I really enjoyed their music. Their dancing kind of seemed like break dance, I really liked that! The whole show was great. I’m glad I attended.

On November 16 my sister and I went to South Mountain Community College to see a dance performance; it was Flamenco, Capoeira, and Belly dance. The flamenco was great; they move fast in the feet, and they dress pretty. The dress was red and blue. They were two men and one woman. The one man was playing the guitar and the other man was clapping his hands. The woman danced alone like three songs, and one song the man clapping his hand and the woman danced together. The men wore suits and the color was black and red. Also, the Capoeria was great; they were five girls and seven boys. They danced and played instruments like drums and also they were singing. The capoeria dancers wore blue and white clothes. They danced like karate, and they made front and back flips. Finally, the Belly dance was awesome. The woman danced pretty good. She moved all her body; she stand up on four cups, and she have a knife on top of her face. The knife also was also on the chin of her face. The music was cool and different. The color that she wore was orange, yellow, and pink with sprinkles of gray. That was a great time and performance, but I like is the Belly Dance the most.
